It has been a bad year for football on the west side of Polk County, and things didn’t get much better for Homecoming night.
The game was going good: Cedartown took a lead over Dalton into halftime, the Dawgs celebrated their homecoming queen, and then? It all came crashing down.
Dalton’s Caine Woods put up a 20-28 and 201 yard performance, scoring three touchdown passes and giving up a pick to Bulldogs’ Chris Johnson in the first half to lead the Catamounts to a 25-20 win over Cedartown.
The Friday night loss moved the Dawgs to 2-5 on the year and gave Dalton just their second win of the year, and first in region play. Nash Smith rushed for 40 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Woods also carried for 118 yards on 12 carries as well. Isaac Summey had seven receptions for 51 yards and two touchdowns, and Kamdon London netted 47 yards on three receptions and a touchdown.

Last year, Dalton didn’t win a single region game and fell hard to Cedartown at home.
The Dawgs have little time to recover and regroup in hopes of breaking a four-game losing streak that began in region with Allatoona and hasn’t let up. They’ve got Cartersville on the road, and finish off the year at Woodland on Oct. 24.
Friday’s loss guaranteed the Dawgs won’t be able to make it to the playoffs this season as they currently sit tied for last place with Woodland without a single region victory.
