Could Rockmart’s long streak of victories come to a screeching halt, or will they prevail?

That’s a question that will be answered this Friday night as a showdown for the season that has been in the making all year is coming up on Halloween at The Rock: who will win the region title between an undefeated North Murray and Yellow Jackets squad with just a single loss to one of the best teams in Northwest Georgia.

Rockmart prevailed over the Murray County Indians in a 65-10 win at The Rock on Friday night, with a 40-point lead in the first half, and another 21 points added to the scoreboard in the fourth quarter alone.

The Jackets’ freshman phenom under center Tucker Parson put up a 15-for-20, 259 yard and four touchdown performance over the Indians in green and white, though he did give up two interceptions on the night.

Parson was aided by senior Nate Davis, who on eight carries rushed for 180 yards and two touchdown on the night. Maxin Ware, Cortez Wright and Mitchell Whitley all got a chance to carry the rock into the end zone as well. Gavin Green nabbed just three passes out of the air for 104 yards and a touchdown on the night as the squad’s receiving leader once again, but Aa’darian Samples got five receptions on 94 yards for two touchdowns.

Devin McCoy nabbed a 22-yard touchdown pass as well.

Now this sets up a spooky one for Jacket Nation at The Rock: a region title game for 7-AA once again.

Both squads are at 7-0 in region play coming into the game, but the Mountaineers have so far remained perfect (though not without some drama.) Just this past weekend, North Murray escaped from Coahulla Creek with a 21-16 win after Creek took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter but gave up three touchdowns before scoring one of their own with a minute left in the game, but failed to convert a 2-pointer that would have kept them in the game.

Rockmart’s win streak in region play is now on the table as well to cap the regular season this coming Friday (one of the longest in state high school football history.) The wins sit at 67 in total since 2016, and comes with 8 region titles (six of those in 7-AA) since 2017.

The Jackets’ last region loss came on October 14, 2016 in a 31-10 road trip to Lindale against Pepperell in Head Coach Biff Parson’s first season coaching the Jackets.

Parson has 102 wins and 22 losses in that time – most of those in non-region games and the playoffs, including two state title appearances in 10 seasons with the Jackets.

No matter Friday’s outcome ahead, Rockmart goes to the Class AA playoffs with a home field advantage in the first round.
