SOFTBALL: Lady Jackets fall short in season opener

Well, it came down to extra innings for the Lady Jackets, but all it took was one run and the Hurricane landed on their season opener at home on Monday.

Rockmart fell in the 10th inning after fighting through a 6-6 tie in the seventh and kept it tied through the ninth, but Cartersville were able to score a final game-winning runs across the plate, and took the season opener for the Lady Jackets with a 12-8 finish.

Camari Peek, Madi Sanders, and Nyasia Darden all put on big performances for the Lady Jackets. Rockmart was initially were down 2-0 through the fourth inning until the bats came alive and matched Cartersville scoring to keep the game going through seven after getting a tying run across the plate.

Each team went scoreless through the eight, added a pair of runs to keep things tied in the ninth, but the tenth inning saw the Lady Hurricanes put up a four-run rout over the plate to finish the season opener and ride back to Bartow County with the W.

Rockmart is back in action today with their first away game at Central Carroll. They’ll be back in action again on Thursday at Haralson County, host Temple on Friday, and play in a weekend tournament with opening round games against White County and Cass.
