SOFTBALL: Lady Jackets top Cedartown in weekend rivalry game

The Lady Jackets on Saturday hosted the first of this year’s rival matchups with Cedartown and came out on top against the Lady Bulldogs as the two teams battle against each other for dominance over who rules the chalk circle in Polk County.

The squads fought each other off through three innings going scoreless before the Lady Jackets bats came alive and they took a 2-0 lead after a bouncer over the Lady Bulldogs short stop went overhead with bases loaded, and allowed a 2-run double to score.

They added two more to the scoreboard before the Lady Bulldogs finally brought the inning to a close with outs.

Cedartown fought back and added an RBI double of their own in the fifth, and one in the sixth off a sacrifice fly that allowed the runner at third to score.

Lady Jackets went to 13-4 overall with the non-region victory, sitting currently at second in region heading into a matchup with Coahulla Creek on Tuesday afternoon.

Now the Lady Bulldogs get a chance to get back to work against Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday. They sit at 10-8 overall this year, and third in region play.
