SOFTBALL: Lady Patriots early lead goes sour in season opening loss

The Lady Patriots thought they were in the driver’s seat in their season opener at home against Adairsville.

They took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held onto it through the second, but then the Lady Tigers started notching runs on the scoreboard and soon enough the game got away from Paulding County, who took their first L on the young season on Monday.

Paulding’s 3-0 opening lead came thanks to Sammy Jo Duval’s 3-run RBI, and the Lady Patriots held onto that lead through the third inning. Then Adairsville came storming back and flipped the scoreboard on Paulding, taking a 5-2 lead for a brief time.

Paulding fought back in the fourth off a 2-run inning and tied things back up, all until the dramatic finish in the seventh when Adairsville were able to score in the top half of the inning, and kept Paulding off the bags through the end of the game in the bottom half.

The 0-1 Patriots are back in action today hosting South Paulding for the Lady Spartans’ season opener.
